Description
This listing is a Esterbrook"Dollar"
fountain pen.
Given the design characteristics, especially the shape of the top of the pocket clip, this item appears to be an early "Dollar" model, circa 1938.
As viewed in Scan #1, the diminutive pen measures 4 3/8" in length, is copper in color, and
fitted with a #1555 "Gregg" nib.
The
surface displays very limited wear with no cracks, scratches, chips, or other signs of abuse or misuse being noted. No discoloration is noted on any portion of the barrel or cap; no oxidation is present on the cap bands or pocket clip. A small, light colored speck is present on the barrel. This appears to be beneath the outer coating and may be a manufacture flaw. It is visible on the right side of the barrel in Scan #2.
Imprinted on the barrel in ornate script lettering is the name,
"
R. ESTERBROOK
Co.
"
; and, below that, in small, block letters, is the wording
"
MADE IN U.S.A.
"
.
The pocket clip extends upward to form a plate on the top on the cap, with the plate bearing the name
"
ESTERBROOK
"
in script lettering.
Scan #3 shows the nib, upon which
the imprint
reads:
"
ESTERBROOK
"
;
below that the number
,
"
1555
"
;
below that the word
,
"
GREGG
"
;
and,
below that
,
"
MADE IN
"
.
The
additional wording is concealed under the section
. The nib is appears to be heavily worn and will probably need to be replaced.
