This is the real McCoy from a bygone era, an authentic, state of the art, top of the line, Scheu Hy-Lo Hard Hat smudge pot with return pipe, stored and protected all of these years, not a brand new cheap Chinese knock off. After decades of improvement, this is the best a smudge pot can get. This is an industrial orchard heater made back before the government made them illegal, and it's made is the U.S.A., not a cheap Chinese "Smudge Pot" decoration. Ask an old timer, and he'll tell you that this is the creme de la creme commercial-duty pot that marked the end of the era.
Nearly impossible to find in such nice condition. This one has been garaged for the last few decades. Other "New, Never Used" smudge pots you'll find have been sitting outdoors all of this time. Yes, they are unused, but they're covered in rust. Not this one as you can see.
The heat deflection hood catches the heat that would go straight up out of the flue pipe and directs some of the heat down to the ground in a 360 degree radius increasing the heating area.
